JUDGE CANNONE: Okay. Any redirect?

2 1:48:49

MR. LALLY: Yes, sure. So, Firefighter McLaughlin, you went to high school with Caitlyn Albert, correct?

3 1:48:57
4 1:48:58

MR. LALLY: And could you describe the nature of your relationship with her?

5 1:49:04

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: I would describe it as — we're not close friends. I would say we're more acquaintances. We have mutual friends. I don't have a one-on-one relationship with her.

6 1:49:20

MR. LALLY: And you were asked some questions about social media, correct?

7 1:49:25
8 1:49:26

MR. LALLY: And if you could guess — sort of using air quotes — how many friends on social media would you have?

9 1:49:38

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: I don't know, probably 500.

10 1:49:41

MR. LALLY: And of those probably 500 friends on social media, how many of those are actual friends that you talk to, interact with, beyond social media?

11 1:49:55

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: Much less than that.

12 1:49:57

MR. LALLY: Now prior to — well, let me ask you this: would you say that you saw Caitlyn Albert more so when you were in high school, or more so since you have graduated from high school?

13 1:50:17

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: I would say probably more in high school, because we were there every day.

14 1:50:25

MR. LALLY: And about what year or so was it that you graduated from high school?

15 1:50:33
16 1:50:34

MR. LALLY: And as far as any sort of photographs that were referenced to you— Have you seen those photographs here?

17 1:50:45

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: Yes, here today. I saw them.

18 1:50:47

MR. LALLY: Do you have any idea where or when those photographs were taken?

19 1:50:52

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: I don't remember.

20 1:50:53

MR. LALLY: And of those photographs, it's not just you and Caitlin Albert in a photograph, is that correct?

21 1:51:00

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: Correct.

22 1:51:00

MR. LALLY: Larger group of people, is that correct?

23 1:51:03

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: Correct.

24 1:51:03

MR. LALLY: When you were asked about sort of these day trips, they were trips specifically on a day to a beach, it looks like, correct?

25 1:51:13

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: Correct.

26 1:51:13

MR. LALLY: And to a beach with a larger group of people, is that correct?

27 1:51:19

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: Correct.

28 1:51:19

MR. LALLY: And with reference to Caitlin Albert specifically, have you ever socialized with her in any setting beyond a setting that contained a large group of people?

29 1:51:30
30 1:51:30

MR. LALLY: Now with respect to — you went to — you say high school, you graduated from Canton High School, correct?

31 1:51:35

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: Correct.

32 1:51:35

MR. LALLY: And you grew up in Canton, is that correct?

33 1:51:38
34 1:51:38

MR. LALLY: And did you know Caitlin Albert before you attended Canton High School?

35 1:51:41

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: No, that's probably when we first really interacted was high school.

36 1:51:44

MR. LALLY: And essentially you live within the town — I'm sorry, you work within the town that you grew up, correct?

37 1:51:50

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: Correct.

38 1:51:50

MR. LALLY: And is that abnormal from a civil service perspective?

39 1:51:52

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: No, from a civil service perspective, you're given more points for residency, so it's actually — I would say preferred, or you're placed higher on the list if you have residency in that town. It's actually preferred and more common than uncommon as far as growing up in a town and then working in that same town in a civil service position like a firefighter.

40 1:52:10

MR. LALLY: Yes. Now during the course of the time that you've been on the Canton Fire Department, have you received calls to residencies or other places or even patients that you either knew or were familiar with?

41 1:52:20
42 1:52:20

MR. LALLY: What would that be a reason for you to not go on a call?

43 1:52:34
44 1:52:34

MR. LALLY: And you have an obligation — when did you say — to respond to a call when a call is made and you're on duty in that station house, correct?

45 1:53:03

JUDGE CANNONE: Objection sustained. Ask the question differently.

46 1:53:05

MR. LALLY: As far as when you're on as a firefighter at a particular station house, you get a call — what, if any, choice do you have to respond to any particular call?

47 1:53:19

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: I don't have a choice. I just have to respond to the call.

48 1:53:25

MR. LALLY: And then prior to that date of January 29th, had you ever been over through socialization or otherwise to Caitlin Albert's house?

49 1:53:34

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: Not that I ever remember.

50 1:53:36

MR. LALLY: Had she ever been over your house?

51 1:53:39
52 1:53:40

MR. LALLY: And again, had you ever socialized with her outside of a large group of people?

53 1:53:46
54 1:53:47

MR. LALLY: When you responded on that morning just after 6:00 a.m., the house of 34 Fairview Road — did you know who lived there?

55 1:53:57
56 1:53:57

MR. LALLY: During the time since January 29th of 2022, have you ever spoken to Caitlin Albert about what happened that morning in front of 34 Fairview Road?

57 1:54:22
58 1:54:23

MR. LALLY: Now you were asked some questions on cross-examination about knowing sort of Caitlin Albert's parents' names or siblings' names or things of that, correct?

59 1:55:43
60 1:55:46

MR. LALLY: And prior to January 29th, you didn't know any of those names, is that correct?

61 1:56:36
62 1:56:40

MR. LALLY: You learned them subsequently, is that correct?

63 1:57:03
64 1:57:06

MR. JACKSON: May we approach just briefly?

65 1:57:23
66 1:57:27

MR. LALLY: McLaughlin, you learned of those other people's names within the Albert family subsequent to your response to this call on January 29th, is that correct?

67 1:57:44
68 1:57:45

MR. LALLY: And you learned of those through sort of various news or media reports in relation to this case, not something that you had any conversations with anybody about, correct?

69 1:58:05

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: Correct.

70 1:58:06

MR. LALLY: I have nothing further.

71 1:58:09

JUDGE CANNONE: All right.

72 1:58:10

MR. JACKSON: If I may? I have—

73 1:58:14
74 1:58:15

MR. JACKSON: You indicated, Miss McLaughlin — Mr. Lally just asked you about these 500 friends on social media — couple of quick questions about that. Of those 500 friends on social media, how many of those have you taken day trips with?

75 1:58:23

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: I don't know.

76 1:58:24

MR. JACKSON: How many of those have you gone to the beach with?

77 1:58:26

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: I don't know.

78 1:58:26

MR. JACKSON: How many of those have you posed for photographs with?

79 1:58:29

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: I don't know.

80 1:58:29

MR. JACKSON: How many of those have you posted for photographs in swimwear with?

81 1:58:32

MS. MCLAUGHLIN: I don't know.

82 1:58:32

MR. JACKSON: How many of those have you been photographed with your arm around while that other friend is drinking a beer?

83 1:58:36

JUDGE CANNONE: Sustained. Sustained.

84 1:58:37

MR. JACKSON: Miss McLaughlin, all of those things that I just mentioned, you have done with this Caitlin Albert.

85 1:58:40

JUDGE CANNONE: Sustained.

86 1:58:40

MR. JACKSON: All I have.

87 1:58:41

JUDGE CANNONE: All right. Firefighter McLaughlin, you are all set.
